Backcountry arrests at Vandenberg Air Force Base
For the first time in nearly a decade, nonviolent civil resisters caused a disruptive breach of the backcountry security zones at Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB) on October 20 and 21, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis. VAFB enforces a sweeping global pattern of violent high-tech military abuse.
Three participants were arrested for federal trespass and others eluded base security patrols.

71 activists arrested on their way to anti-nuclear protest in India
[Breaking news:  Monday, October 29 – Around 2,000 anti-nuclear activists were stopped, with several arrested by police, in Chennai, India as they gathered at the state assembly to protest the Koodankulam nuclear power plant.  The nuclear fuel has already been loaded in the plant, which is waiting for approval from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board for commissioning.]
from DiaNuke.org
On October 28, about 29 activists from different organizations lending support to the people of Koodankulam against the nuclear power plant were taken under preventive detention by Tamilnadu police. This comes at a time when PMANE, along with solidarity movements from across the state, had decided to hold a peaceful and democratic protest demonstration in front of the Tamilnadu State Legislature on the 29th of October (when the assembly session begins). In an attempt to sabotage the plan and to prevent the people from voicing their views against Koodankulam nuclear power plant, the Tamilnadu police have resorted to the undemocratic practice of preventive detention.

Construction of the controversial navy base on Jeju Island, South Korea, is accelerating. In the last week, after months of delays due to local protest, a 24/7 operation has begun. Round-the-clock resistance in Gangjeong village has followed with dozens of people sustaining a blockade at the construction gate, sometimes in pouring rain and at night under the glare of broad banks of bright lighting installed to illuminate the work yard.
