On Monday afternoon, November 16, European policymakers and arms merchants were meeting in private at the annual conference of the European Defence Agency (EDA) in Brussels. Soon after the Paris massacre, the war suppliers were primed to profit from the Agency’s mission that includes strengthening the European defense industry.

On the sidewalk just outside the barricaded, red carpet entrance to the meeting venue, about three dozen peace activists rolled out a red puddle of paint, disrupting the scene as they staged a bloody sit-in.

PALERMO – The MUOS, located near Niscemi, “one of the most important strategic sites of the U.S. armed forces, is vulnerable” and therefore “dangerous”. So writes the website of the Sicilian movement “No MUOS, ” hailing the action of their activist Turi Vaccaro, who last Thursday, evading the strict surveillance of U.S. soldiers and the police, managed to penetrate the military base in the area of Ulmo, climb one of the three radar dishes of the disputed system of satellite telecommunications, and sabotage it with a hammer, causing damage of close to 800 thousand euro.

On October 16, a group of anti-militarist activists impeded and disrupted the departure of a military convoy from the port of Sagunto, Spain due to be deployed in war maneuvers in the next few days by army units of more than 30 countries as part of the NATO exercise “Trident Juncture 2015”. Dressed in white overalls and pink reflective vests, the activists assembled at the dockside, where a cargo vessel with vehicles and arms was being unloaded in preparation for the live fire stage of the NATO military maneuver in San Gregorio (Zaragoza), Spain. While two activists stood in front of two tanks, two more activists rapidly chained themselves with lock-on tubes to the vehicles and cut off the road leading from the port area. Another two activists unveiled banners that read “War Stops Here” and “Sorry for the Inconvenience: Obstructing War Preparations”.

Chris Coverdale imprisoned for council tax resistance

A long-time anti-war activist has been jailed for six weeks for refusing to pay his council tax on the grounds that the UK government is engaged in terrorism.

On 7 October, Chris Coverdale of Rye, East Sussex, was imprisoned for 42 days by Hastings magistrate court, for refusing to pay over £1,800 in council tax to Rother district council.

Nine anti-drone protesters from throughout Northern California – Redding to Stockton, Bay Area to Nevada City – were arrested in a nonviolent action at Beale Air Force Base on the morning of September 29. The group acted in solidarity with the refugees around the world who are fleeing their homes because of wars.

The peace and justice activists connected the tragic stories of the migrant crisis to U.S. policies that destabilize countries with ongoing bombing and violence and force the mass displacement and fleeing of millions of human beings. With their action, they wanted to draw attention to the serious global crisis, and demand that the U.S. government use peace and diplomacy to solve conflict. While at Beale, they publicly read some of the most recent horrifying migrant and refugee stories, detailing some of the thousands of lives lost while fleeing wars.
